April 17, 2026   |   Read online So Trump says the Iran war "should be ending pretty soon." He also just brokered a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. And suddenly everyone's acting like we're one handshake away from peace in the Middle East. Stock futures are up. S&P and Nasdaq hit new highs yesterday. The Dow's up 240 points this morning. Cool, cool, cool. Except... Here's what doesn't quite add up: Trump also said Iran wants to "make a deal very badly." But nothing's signed. Oil's still at $90. And his military's STILL enforcing sanctions and blockading Iranian ports. So are we actually close to peace? Or are we just… optimistic? Because the market's betting HARD on the former. The Dow's up 1.4% this week. S&P's up 3.3%. Nasdaq? Up 5.2%. All riding this wave of "conflict's almost over" vibes. But here's where it gets sketchy… The rally's narrow as hell. Liz Ann Sonders from Charles Schwab put it best: "11 days, we got to new all-time highs. There's nothing wrong with that, but I think we need to see a little bit more participation under the surface to feel some comfort that there is something lasting here." Translation: A few big names are carrying this thing. (Looking at you, tech.) And if those names stumble… or if Iran talks fall apart… this whole "rally" could get real ugly, real fast. Speaking of stumbles… Netflix just face-planted. Down 10% premarket. Why? Their Q2 earnings forecast came in at 78 cents per share. Analysts wanted 84 cents. Oh, and co-founder Reed Hastings is peacing out from the board in June. So that's… not great. Meanwhile, Alcoa missed earnings too. And Affirm's getting a Morgan Stanley upgrade because apparently easing credit fears = bullish now? (Sure, Jan.) Point is… the headlines say "everything's fine." But the price action? It's twitchy.
